So I run Plex, and have done for a number of years now, and never had any issues until earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
External users did not experience this to my knowledge, only users on my LAN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Start watching something (9\/10 it’ll be a TV show), and then part way through you stop it for some reason, then come back a little later, and hit resume – and Plex just sits there with “Buffering” or the circle spinning….. and spinning… and spinning…<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some TV shows, its perfectly fine to stop and start again, but a majority were giving me this issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I tried a lot of different things, and asked around on forums, reddit etc, and no-one had an answer for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Except Claude.AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I fed Claude some logs from Plex, and I was surprised to find it actually knew what I was experiencing and what was the most likely cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Turns out, earlier this year, Plex changed how some codecs were handled, and if you had hardware acceleration enabled, you could experience resume issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Claude suggested I turn off hardware acceleration and see how that went.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And wow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It worked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Read back through what Claude had discovered and appears its earlier model IntelHD video that gets caught out with the changes – Plex apparently knows about the issue but doing nothing (so far anyway) to resolve it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
So if you are experiencing similar issues, try turning off hardware acceleration on your IntelHD 530 chipset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yes, it does mean the CPU will be hit a bit harder, but not enough to cause issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
