Marketplace Buyers: Proof That Reading Is a Lost Art

I sell a bit of stuff via TradeMe and Facebook Marketplace to make a few dollars here and there. But some people think that because I’m selling something, that I’ll accept anything for it….

I’ll keep adding as they come in…. 🙂

Gaming PC – Asking Price : $1750

Dude, Hamilton is only 100km away – I know petrol is expensive right now but come on.

I asked for cash sale and this one couldn’t seem to comprehend visiting an ATM to get cash…. with the refund comment, I suspect it was going to be a transfer scam.

Empty your piggy bank….

Advert says “NOT parting out” – wanted everything except the lowest cost items, the case and PSU.

Obviously just come out of coma and not realized RAM/GPU pricing…..

And the usual courier scammers….

At least you were in the 4 digit range

Bulk Playstations

Don’t have screenshots, but had usual courier scam ones, and then this one…

Guy messages me, seems interested and legit, bit of back and forth, agree on price (lower than advertised), and he asks if I can get it to him via courier OR Mainfreight, in Waiuku.

Fine, but I didnt get time to get quotes. He messages me asking if I had the quotes, told him no, but because he lived in Waiuku, I can meet him 10mins from there as I’m out that way in a few days.

His response was “I’m in Auckland”

“You said you were in Waiuku”

“Oh yeah. Can you do a better price, I’m on a budget”

“No sorry, price was already agreed” – are you on drugs or something. And if you’re on a budget, why are you looking at this stuff ?

“$200 then”

“Yes. I can meet you at the Glenbrook Caltex on Saturday afternoon”

“That sounds good”

Silence……..

So messaged him again a few hours later.

“Just confirming you’re 100% still wanting to go ahead with this deal ?”

Silence.

Fuck it. Blocked. Suspect it was probably gonna either end up being a different variation of a courier scam, OR he’d turn up with only half the money.
