Crashing Xbox One S

April 6, 2025 - Reading time: 2 minutes

Picked up a Xbox One S for free around Xmas, owner said it was temperamental as to if it would run.

Came with original box (poor condition)

Already had a good idea what was probably causing it - overheating.

So I stripped it down, and wow.... yeah... overheating alright, but not due to a lack of paste.

Under the heatsink, was paste EVERYWHERE.

So what I suspect had happened, is that it started overheating, and then someone had a go at re-pasting it themselves.... thinking the whole tube had to be used. It was a mess.

So I got to cleaning it up....

Did bit of a rough job but figured it'll do for now....... gave it some fresh paste and put it back together.

Guess what ?

Its been running fine since :)

I'll strip it down again at some stage and give it a better clean.
